Monday 02/09/09

Had a fun, fairly quiet weekend. Friday I stayed in and had a torts from this awesome Mexican place down the block. Got some workdone and caught up on TiVo.

Saturday I went out with Charlie and a couple other guys to Brikskeller and then Hoban’s in Dupont. Had some laughs, particularly about the women selling pizza who accosted us in the street.

Stopped by my friend Bens after and hung put for a while, got home around 3 (far too late for this old man).

Valentine’s Day 02/06/09

Just finished making all the plans for V Day. Shaping up quite nicely.

LG has been buried between school and wedding planning so i really wanted to make this memorable.

I made the hotel and dinner reservations, so we are all set there, and ran to Georgetown today to pick up a present for her, obviously I cant post it here for obvious reasons. But I know she’ll like it.

iphone monogomy 02/04/09

I’m going to see how the other side lives today. Im disconnecting the Blackberry, and only using my iPhone. I know, a whole day with no Pin messages, no tactile typing response, its going to be rough.

Update: iPhone wins, hands down. More flexibility on services, more apps, more everything. I’m switching over full time. When I don’t have the blackberry crutch to lean on I’m typing faster then ever.

Had a great weekend up in Syracuse with LG, although as always too short. I’m more then a little anxious for an end to long distance.

After a two and a half hour delay I finally made my flight back to DC. Now I’m in a cab hauling over to a meeting in Northwest that I expected to have plenty of time to make.

Tonight I’m having dinner with Esther and her brother Caleb and my brother’s friend Jenny who just moved to the district.

We’re eating at Oya, which I’ve wanted to try for a while but never got around to, hopefull it will deliver.

So, haven’t been getting much up here this past week. But it has been busy.

New Years was very low key, just LG and I. I think it was good, I hate the heightened expectations and all the nonsense associated with New Years plans and was more then happy to spend it lounging around hanging with my lady.

The day after I spent moving. Will and I have relocated to a new apartment in Colombia Heights that I really like. For starters I’m not sharing a bathroom, but also there are a lot of shops and restaurants around making it a much more lively neighborhood then my last place.

Later in the week LG departed, which was a bummer. I hate long distance, and can’t wait till this semester is over and were living together again.

As I type this Charlie and I are sitting on a plane taking us from BWI to LAX for the first leg of our 26 hour trek to Australia and then New Zealand for the IYDU conference.

It should be an interesting trip, we’ll get to see what the rest of the world is up to, and catch up with our friend Byron and some other good folks.

26 hours and counting, starting now…

behind 12/30/08

I thought I would have Cruise pics up by now but underestimated how much catching up I’d have.  I’ve been in the office all day since I got back and after a conference call this morning and a lunch have spent the rest of today there as well.

Now I’m just about where I need to be, and after a few hours cranking on my Mac tomorrow shoould be free and clear for a low key New Years with the wife and some friends.

Meanwhile, I caught up with Blake last night, who was in town for wedding, and then out of the blue got a call from my friend Adriel who just returned to DC after spending 3 months surfing in Costa Rica and then climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.  We chatted for a bit and made plans for lunch on Friday, It’ll be good to catch up.

and we’re back 12/28/08

After a solid weeks vacation cruising aboard a massive boat in the Caribbean with LG and my fam I am back on land in DC.

It was a good trip, ate a lot, slept a lot, relaxed a lot: couldn’t have planned it better myself.

Our days were consumed by reading (I polished off Beautiful Boy and Ugly Americans) and laying in the sun. The result of which is a day or two wondering if I wouldn’t have been better suited to be a i-banker and a tan which rivals the deep brown of a kodiak bear.

Nights usually revolved around a lax 2 hour dinner, and were followed by either a night of dancing to poorly DJ’d pop or relaxing quietly and getting to bed early. One exception was the night I lost (sorely) in monopoly and vowed to never again play that Milton Bradley concoction from hell.

On the whole it was a good time, but I am glad to be home. I’ll try and get some pics up tomorrow. For now that’s it, the carousel is slithering and squeaking its way around and any minute I will have to push my way through the assembled mass and claim my over packed bag.

the day in short(s) 12/18/08

There must be a shortage of 5 year olds in Florida because they are flying them down by the boeing-full. After having my seat kicked, and subsequently a candid discussion about child rearing with the boy’s mother, we grounded the bird just in time for a 45 minute wait at baggage claim.

After collecting my things I met my brother outside. We unsuccesfully attempted to fit my full size suitcase into the trunk of his relentlessly impractical coupe before giving up and treking the 30 miles back top down with a suitcase on my lap.

After the airport things improved. We met some of my brother’s friends for lunch at a great little tapas joint, followed by a little work and a conference call, and the coup de gras, a nap.

Around 7 we grabbed burgers at Justin Timberlake’s favorite spot on South Beach, Cheeseburger Baby (jealous wc?).

Now we’re heading downtown to hit a couple local bars, and then call it a night.

a day delayed 12/18/08

As one could gather from my frustrated twitter stream last night I didn’t make my flight to Miami. After a less then pleasent discussion with the booking agent I made arrangements for a new flight out this morning.

So, in a few hours I will be on the ground in Miami, hanging with my brother Daniel, and enjoying a much needed change in weather.

In other news, we have found an apartment and won’t be homeless come January after all. Were finalizing the paperwork today and tomorrow and should be set by the time I return from vacation.

lg pkg 12/17/08

LG and Tierra are out today in search of housing for yours truly and Will “the thrill” Crosswell.

Here is a pic from their adventure.

On the advice of counsel (a marriage counselor to be exact) I have been advised to take down any pictures ridiculing LGs percieved difficulty parking: hence no more photo.

walk about 12/13/08

After something of a late start LG and I had a great brunch over at Tunnicliffs, Eggs Florentine, French Toast and Fresh Fruit.  Then we made an afternoon of walking around the National Mall, checking out the monuments before walking up to Chinatown to do some shopping and have a cup of coffee.

Now were back at the house, getting ready for a light dinner in before heading out to Dupont to catch up with some friends.  Check out my Brightkite stream if you want to catch up.

Just got seated on my flight back to DC. Should be back by about 1.

Have to get home and clean up before LG arrives. After that I’m supposed to head over to a Christmas party for the law firm we use.

Should be a nice little weekend, I’m happy to have Lindsey back.

service interruption 12/10/08

Today I’m playing with http://www.govit.com/:  A site that lets you voice your opinion on legislation before congress.  Whats better, you can log in using your Facebook account.

Also, I’ve just signed up for Evernote, and added the desktp and iPhone apps. We’ll see how that goes.

question time 12/10/08

Just got back from lunch with a friend on the Hill, had an interesting chat about the state of the RNC Chairman’s race.

Also, came across this little gem from the Obama team.  Not a bad idea, lets see how they use it.

service interruption 12/08/08

Today I’m investigating zhiing: a Location based service and brightkit (not brightkite): a twitter tool box.

After an investment of an afternoon I have the following synopsis:

Zhiing offers a non soc-net version of location based communication.  Its not abot your friends on the service, its just about friends.  You want them where you are, zhiing helps you get them there.

Brightkit doesn’t seem to offerstime release posting of tweet and auto replys as well as a handfull of other options.
