bar(f) mitzvah 09/08/08
I was in Denver this weekend for my cousins bar mitzvah. It a Jewish rite of passage where a young man or women first reads from a Torah.
My cousin, stylin child that he is, made it through every word with relative ease, right up untill….
He threw up. Mic was still hot, standing there in front of families and friends, the poor kid yaked the kind of passionate spew that only a public performance can summon. After the initial blow he was rushed off to the side by my Aunt and Uncle, unforuneately it would be a few more minutes before they would think to cut the mic, so the assembled congregation enjoyed a few more minutes of audio before the production was halted.
Without a question, it was an event no one attending will ever forget.
When it was all said and done the poor kid did a great job considering the flu he has been suffering all day, and everyone, family included laughed it off and had a great time. The best part for me was that MJ, the Bar Mitzvah boy, was totally unfazed, not a hint of embarrassment: great kid Just one more awesome story that he can look forward to every one of us repeating to every girl he ever dates until he eventually marries and has kids, at which point we’ll start telling them.
Some pics from the weekend are up online, though none of that fateful moment, sadly.
